Social Justice Radio

Prison Talk and Jazz. A voice for some of the voiceless.

The Fancy Broccoli Show is three hours of discussion of prison reform issues and social justice and (loosely defined) jazz from all periods. Around 3:30 we conduct an interview with someone connected to prison - activists, family members, parolees, victims of crimes and others. Around 5:00 we read the mail which mostly comes from people incarcerated in the listening area. We have received mail from Green Haven Correctional Facility, Fishkill, Mid-Orange, Wallkill, Shawangunk, Otisville and others. In the music part of the show we emphasize vocals and standards. You'll hear plenty of Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Etta Jones, Etta James, John Coltrane, Johnny Hartman, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, ... and also new releases and occasional poetry.

The Fancy Broccoli Show airs on somewhat alternate Sundays from 3 - 6pm ET on Independent Radio WVKR 91.3 FM, Poughkeepsie NY. WVKR streams online - go to WVKR.org and click on (or near) the word 'LISTEN'.
